To those worried about a quagmire: We captured Afghanistan and Iraq in weeks. The reason both went on so long was because we had the hubris to remake these countries in our own image and failed. Maduro was illegitimately elected in one of the most blatant coups. He kicked out all the watchdog groups except the literal Communist ones like Alliance for Global Justice and DSA. He simply announced the final totals, declared himself the winner, and that was it. 7 million people have fled from Venezuela and many of them are inside the USA. And now they can return. This is one of the rare military interventions that actually reverses entropy instead of accelerating it. A successor government is already prepared to assume power. There is no plan to occupy or reconstruct the country, we leave. That is exactly why the usual suspects who normally celebrate intervention are crying "regime change" and "forever wars." They consider themselves the only legitimate guardians of the national order and they saw Venezuela as a stabilizer for the BRICS axis. (Or cynically, they benefited from the drug trade.) They're now whining because they're hoping you're too stupid to see the difference in military operations.

Remittances are the big part; immigrants simply aren't hardwired for individualism like we are so they feel obligated to wire huge shares of their grift back to their country. 2. Actblue kicks back to Democratic politicians and donates to various 501(c)(3) which then pay these professional protesters under the table.

How Obama Dropped over 26K bombs on 7 countries without congress approval Just in 2016. Even @snopes reported on this. In 2016 alone, then–U.S. President Barack Obama authorized more than 26,000 airstrikes across seven countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen. This figure is based on data from the U.S. Air Force, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Long War Journal, and the New America Foundation. Obama did not seek a new act of Congress to carry out these military operations. While his actions were not deemed illegal, they relied heavily on the broad 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), originally passed to target al-Qaida and the Taliban in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. Over time, that authorization was expanded to justify strikes against militant groups that either did not exist on Sept. 11, 2001, or were not formally affiliated with al-Qaida. This practice is not unique to the Obama administration. Diamond ring? That's a whole new level of corruption. Or, even more scary: is this the NORMAL level of corruption which we have refused to acknowledge, because we have been shut out of these schemes while they have been raised in that world all their lives? A lot of my worldview has been dismantled this year. But, for some reason, entertaining the possibility that 100K diamond rings are normal in that world feels like crossing a line -- because it's the last line which moves from "they lie to themselves about the good they're doing" to "they are knowingly participating in evil."
