@DataRepublican, I promised you a story from Ukraine about the def community, and this one stayed with me.
Meet Olea, an 8-year-old with a bright smile and a presence far bigger than her years. Her parents told me they work extra jobs just to afford her sign-language school. For the first three years of her life, they didn’t even know she was deaf. When the doctor finally told them, the news hit hard. Fear, confusion, and grief came all at once. But they didn’t stop there, they adapted, learned, and fought for her future.
Today, Olea is thriving. She communicates with confidence, joy, and pride. She even became the youngest person to sign my flag here in Ukraine.
We took a selfie together, and Olea wanted you to know something important. With her hands, her smile, and her heart, she sent you this message:
“We love you, Jennica.”
